What is henna?
Henna (Lawsonia inermis) is a tall shrub that grows in semi-arid areas such as Africa and Southern Asia. The paste applied to your skin comes from grinding into a powder the leaves of this shrub. Essential oils and water or citrus are then added to make the paste. Henna dyes the skin for a certain amount of time depending on the location of the design, the quality of the paste, and the duration of contact with the skin.

Is henna safe?
Henna paste is a natural dye that has been used since the Bronze Age. It is safe for pregnant women, as well as children over the age of 6. I will never, ever use black henna (henna with a harmful chemical added called PPD). Natural henna is very safe, and allergic reactions are rare. However, anyone with a G6PD deficient or an allergy to citrus or fava beans should NOT get henna done. I will not henna infants.

Is henna permanent?
Henna is not permanent! Depending on how long the paste is left on the skin, the stain will last anywhere from several days to several weeks. I can show you how to properly care for your design to maximize it's life.

What kind of face paint do you use?
I use only FDA-compliant, professional grade face paints. Allergic reactions are very rare, but if your child has never been painted before, a test spot is recommended.
